SOWIC’s ten school districts provide special education programs and services for approximately 2240 students with disabilities.  Each SOWIC district provides a full continuum of special education services either within their buildings, through the Cooperative or in private facilities.  Five of the SOWIC districts employ their own cross categorical teachers and teacher assistants and SOWIC employs the cross categorical staff for the other districts.

Type:  Joint Agreement established in 1969.  Administered by an Executive Board consisting of the Superintendents of the member school districts.

Office Location:  Located in Joliet in northeastern Illinois, approximately 40 miles southwest of Chicago in Will County.

Students:  SOWIC serves a total student population of 13,700 students and provides direct services to 2240 special education students.
