Wilmington ELS High School Program

The Wilmington ELS program structured similarly to Wilmington high school. The courses taught throughout the school year are English, Math, Vocation, Independent Living, and various elective courses. Each course focuses on a variety of skills, including reading, writing, analyzing situations, following directions, and working both independently and in a group setting.

What to expect in core classess:

  • English Language Arts: Independent and group reading, reading comprehension strategies, word study, writing structure and conventions, functional reading and writing skills
  • Math: Pre-Algebra, basic geometry, data and probability, time and money, fractions, functional math skills
  • Vocation: Habits of wellness, career exploration, employability, job sampling
  • Foods/Independent Living: kitchen safety, food planning, nutrition, healthy habits, drug prevention

Best Buddies

Best Buddies is a friendship club at WHS/ELS dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by providing opportunities to develop one-to-one friendships. Students in the Education and Life Skills program (ELS) and WHS students meet at least once per month during the school day to participate in friendship activities. Boilermaker Games

Boilermaker games in an annual event sponsored by Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School (BBCHS) in which students compete in special Olympics activities with their best buddy. All participating schools have the opportunity to win various awards. All are welcome to show their support for the athletes.
